Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A sgabello hall chair is an unupholstered wooden accent seat inspired by Italian Renaissance designs and produced during the British Georgian period. These chairs were intended for formal reception halls and entryways, featuring shaped solid backrests and architectural support legs.

Mid-18th-century hall chairs were typically crafted from solid hardwoods, primarily West Indian or Cuban mahogany. They feature dense timber construction, hand-carved solid back panels, dished wooden seats, and shaped trestle legs designed for heavy daily wear.

Authentic George II period chairs show signs of hand-cut joinery, hand-sawn markings on unexposed undersides, and natural wood shrinkage over time. The timber exhibits oxidation and deep colour variations in carved recesses rather than uniform modern staining.

Position a pair symmetrically flanking a console table or along an entryway wall to highlight their architectural silhouette. Their dark timber tone provides strong visual contrast against modern light plaster finishes or minimalist wall treatments.

Dust surfaces regularly using a soft, dry microfibre cloth and apply a clear beeswax polish once or twice per year to protect the timber surface. Keep solid wood seating away from direct heat sources and radiators to prevent timber shrinkage and splitting.
