Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Mid-18th century Swedish Baroque boxes typically feature robust softwood construction, such as pine or fir, combined with hand-forged iron hardware and structural straps. These functional storage containers were designed to protect valuables and textiles in Scandinavian households during the Baroque period.

Craftsmen constructed these boxes primarily from native pine or spruce timber, utilising bentwood or mortise-and-tenon joinery. Structural elements included hand-hammered wrought iron straps, rivets, twisted handles, and elaborate keyhole escutcheons.

Authentic pieces show irregular hand-forged ironwork with hand-cut rivets, natural wood shrinkage around metal fittings, and distinct wear patterns around keyholes and handles. Look for hand-sawn timber marks and age-related oxidisation on the metalwork rather than uniform modern fasteners.

Position the box on a sideboard top, coffee table, or open bookshelf as an accent piece that adds historical texture. It serves both as a decorative object and as concealed storage for small household items.

Clean the timber gently using a dry microfibre cloth and apply clear beeswax sparingly to maintain timber moisture. Keep metal fittings dry to prevent active corrosion and position the object away from direct heat sources to avoid timber splitting.
