This 19th-century French Empire armchair exemplifies Grand Regency style, constructed from mahogany with a warm brown finish and flame mahogany veneer. The piece displays a straight timber backrest inset with a rectangular panel of gold-coloured striped velvet upholstery, secured by an edge of individual brass studs. Sweeping wooden arms terminate in carved mythical dolphin heads above the supports, meeting a seat upholstered in matching gold striped velvet with brass studding along the lower wooden rail. The frame stands on four wooden legs, with the front two showing a gentle outward curve.
