Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian library armchair belongs to the gentleman's library style tradition of the period. The seating frame is constructed from dark reddish-brown mahogany wood and holds deep button-tufted upholstery in a soft olive green velvet fabric. The chair stands on curved cabriole legs terminating in small brass castors, while the exposed wooden front scroll arm terminals display detailed hand-carved acanthus leaf motifs. The high curved backrest features a diamond button-tufted pattern across the plush fabric surface, complemented by padded armrests and a sprung seat cushion for comfort. Measuring 86 cm in height, 84 cm in width, and 51 cm in depth, this compact seating option fits well within a traditional study, a formal living room, or a quiet reading corner. The armchair provides a supportive, enclosed seating experience suitable for everyday use while adding a distinct period aesthetic to an interior space.

Vacuum velvet gently with a soft brush attachment to prevent dust build-up, and blot spills immediately with a dry cloth. Polish the timber showframe with natural beeswax, keeping the item away from direct sunlight and heat sources.

Place the chair alongside a contemporary reading light or architectural side table to create an eclectic focal point. Modern minimalist decor helps contrast the detailed hand-carving and rich texture of nineteenth-century buttoned velvet.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-carved details on the showframe, period-appropriate joinery such as mortise and tenon joints, and original ceramic or brass castors attached to cabriole or turned front legs.

These chairs were constructed using hardwood frames, primarily mahogany, walnut, or rosewood. Internal cushioning relied on coil springs, horsehair, and burlap, with showframes finished in dark varnishes and upholstered in woven fabrics like velvet or leather.

Victorian library armchairs were developed during the nineteenth century specifically for comfort and relaxation in study areas. They typically feature deep buttoned upholstery, padded armrests, a generous seat depth, and decorative showframe timber detailing.
