This 18th century Neoclassical wall mirror is an English piece from the Adam period, executed in carved wood, gesso, and glass with an off-white painted finish. The design incorporates an oval frame enclosed by elaborate decoration including an urn cresting at the top, delicate bellflower swags running down the sides, floral motifs, and a three-tier bellflower drop detail at the base. Visible details include raised mouldings around the central mirror plate and ornamental scrollwork flanking the upper urn structure. The piece measures 107 cm high, 53 cm wide, and 4 cm deep. In a contemporary home, this wall mirror suits placement above the mantel in a living room, drawing room, or hallway, reflecting light and adding classical symmetry to the interior space. Its muted off-white palette integrates readily with both traditional and transitional decorative schemes, providing a refined focal point on any chimney breast or main wall.

Developed in the late 18th century by architect Robert Adam, this Neoclassical style features symmetrical proportions inspired by classical antiquity, incorporating delicate motifs such as urns, rams heads, bellflower swags, and slim oval frames.

Mirrors from this era were primarily carved from softwoods like pine or lime, layered with gesso, and either gilded with leaf or finished in light paint tones, housing hand-blown glass plates.

Authentic pieces exhibit refined, slender carving details, original wire or iron armature support for delicate cresting elements, hand-carved joinery on the reverse, and minor surface oxidation consistent with historical glass production.

Position the mirror above a contemporary sideboard, fireplace mantel, or console table to create an elegant focal point that balances clean modern lines with historic architectural detail.

Dust delicate carvings gently with a soft, dry camel-hair brush, avoid liquid cleaners on painted or gilded areas, and clean the glass using a lightly dampened microfibre cloth without touching the surrounding frame.
