We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in France during the reign of Napoleon III from 1852 to 1870, Second Empire furniture is known for its eclectic revival of earlier historical styles, combining elements of Louis XVI and Neo-Classical design with intricate wood carving and luxurious upholstery.

Craftsmen typically utilised dense hardwoods such as dark walnut, mahogany, or ebonised wood for frames, paired with traditional coil springs, horsehair padding, and silk or damask fabrics for the upholstered seats and backs.

Authentic period pieces display hand-carved detailing such as fluted turned legs and rosettes, evidence of hand-cut joinery, period-correct oxidisation on the underside of the wooden frame, and original upholstery tack marks.

These side chairs can be positioned individually as decorative accent seating in a bedroom, placed symmetrically on either side of a console table, or integrated into a contemporary dining table set for an eclectic look.

Keep the wood nourished using a high-quality natural beeswax polish applied along the grain, avoid exposure to direct sunlight or radiators, and vacuum the fabric upholstery gently using a soft brush attachment.
