This antique Regency armchair is made from mahogany with a warm brown timber finish and stands 97 cm high, 64 cm wide, and 61 cm deep. The frame holds a padded square backrest, a seat, and padded armrests upholstered in cream cotton fabric. Gilt bronze mounts decorate the upper backrest and the terminals of the armrests, complementing the tapered legs. The timber frame is re-polished, and the upholstery is freshly renewed. Suitable as an accent seat in a living room, study, or bedroom, this piece combines traditional seating with classical decorative details. The sturdy construction provides everyday comfort while maintaining the formal appearance characteristic of early nineteenth-century English furniture. Placement near a desk or in a reading corner allows the brass mounts and fabric texture to contribute to a room's interior design.

Regency period furniture, dating roughly from 1811 to 1830, is defined by neoclassical proportions inspired by ancient Greek, Roman, and Egyptian forms. Designs prominently feature polished dark timbers, symmetrical lines, brass inlays, and decorative mounts.

Regency armchairs were primarily crafted from dense mahogany or rosewood, often accented with cast brass or ormolu mounts. Seats and backrests were upholstered using natural horsehair padding covered in silk, leather, or woven fabrics.

Authentic Regency armchairs exhibit hand-cut joinery, natural patination on dark timber, and precise brass fittings. Look for hand-planed frame surfaces, original castors or brass terminal caps, and construction evidence consistent with early nineteenth-century techniques.

A Regency armchair can serve as an accent piece in a contemporary study, living room corner, or dressing room. Pairing dark mahogany woodwork with light, neutral wall shades creates contrast while maintaining architectural interest.

Maintain mahogany timber by dusting with a soft microfibre cloth and applying beeswax polish sparingly along the grain. Keep the chair away from direct sunlight and central heating sources to prevent wood movement and fabric fading.
