This handsome nineteenth-century library bergère armchair exemplifies Regency style, constructed from mahogany with cane side panels, warm brown leather upholstery, and brass castors. The chair has button-tufted brown leather back and seat cushions, with tan leather upholstered arm pads resting on fluted, tapered column supports. The wooden frame includes reeded front legs, which terminate in round brass castors. There is slight damage and wear to the wicker on the right side of the chair under the armrest, while the wicker on the left side remains in good order. The piece measures 96.5 cm high, 67 cm wide, and 80 cm deep. In a contemporary home, this armchair serves as a comfortable reading seat for a study, home office, or gentleman's library. The compact proportions allow it to sit beside a desk or fireplace without overwhelming the floor space, offering a traditional seating option that complements classic and transitional interior schemes alike.

A library bergere chair is a traditional deep-seated armchair featuring exposed timber framing, often incorporating woven cane panels alongside upholstered leather or fabric cushions, designed originally for reading rooms.

These chairs were typically constructed with solid hardwoods such as mahogany or rosewood, hand-woven rattan cane panels, brass socket castors, and deep buttoned leather upholstery.

Authentic period pieces usually feature hand-carved details like reeded or turned front legs, woven cane lining, original brass castors, and natural wear or patination on the timber frame and leather upholstery.

Position the chair in a corner paired with a floor lamp and a small side table to create a reading nook, allowing the dark timber and warm leather tones to complement a modern neutral room palette.

Keep the chair away from direct heat sources and prolonged sunlight to prevent the leather from cracking and the cane from drying out, applying a specialist leather conditioner periodically.
