This pair of Georgian mahogany carvers from circa 1810 exemplifies Regency design with dark brown wood tones and ebony stringing. Each armchair presents unusual twisted rope backs, reeded sweeping armrests ending in scrolls, and sabre legs. The upholstered seats feature a light blue and white striped fabric covering, complemented by reeded frame mouldings and shaped top rails. Measuring 84 cm in height, 51 cm in width, and 43 cm in depth with a seat height of 46 cm, these chairs offer comfortable seating. Suitable for use around a dining table or as accent seating in a living room, they bring historic elegance to contemporary interiors.

Regency period furniture, dating from approximately 1811 to 1830, is defined by classical Greco-Roman influences, slender proportions, and fine cabinetmaking. Signature elements include reeded legs, sabre legs, scroll arms, and decorative carvings such as rope-twist motifs.

Early nineteenth-century carver chairs were predominantly crafted from dense Cuban or West Indian mahogany due to its fine grain and durability. Secondary woods such as pine or oak were used for frame interiors, while seats were upholstered in horsehair, silk, or wool textiles.

Authentic Regency chairs display hand-cut mortise and tenon joinery, natural age-related oxidisation on the underside, and hand-carved detailing. The timber typically exhibits deep patina, and seat frames often feature original corner blocks or hand-shaped rails.

Regency carvers can be placed at the head of a contemporary dining table to create visual contrast. They also serve effectively as standalone desk chairs or accent seating in hallways and living rooms.

Maintain mahogany timber by dusting with a soft cloth and applying beeswax polish once or twice a year in the direction of the grain. Keep the chairs away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage and fabric fading.
