An antique Georgian period lacquered chinoiserie mirror, originating from England around the 1800 to 1820 period, brings traditional English country house style to an interior. The timber wall mirror has a black lacquer finish decorated with gold hand-painted Chinoiserie figurative scenes on the top panel, scrollwork outlines along the frame, and a shell motif cresting at the top. The tall rectangular piece measures 108 cm high, 46 cm wide, and 3 cm deep, showing minor wear consistent with age. In a contemporary home, this item works well placed on a wall above a sideboard in a hallway, dining room, or living room. The vertical proportions suit narrow wall spaces, while the dark finish and gilded details add a decorative accent to traditional and eclectic interiors.

A Georgian Chinoiserie mirror features European framing decorated with hand-painted Asian-inspired landscapes, figures, and floral motifs popular during the 18th century.

These pieces were built using timber foundations, coated with multiple layers of shellac or varnish known as japanning, and decorated with raised gold leaf details.

Authentic pieces display natural craquelure in the varnish, hand-cut pine or oak backboards, and uneven oxidisation on the original silvered glass.

Position the mirror above a console table, sideboard, or mantelpiece to create a focal point that contrasts structured modern lines with historical detail.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft dry cloth, avoid chemical polishes or water, and keep the frame away from direct heat sources and sunlight.
