A Queen Anne Revival burr walnut cheval mirror dating from 1920, finished in warm brown tones with a clear waxed sheen. The full-length glass plate sits within a shaped frame with an arched cresting at the top, mounted between twin uprights topped with turned finials. Original brass side holders allow the mirror to tilt, and the assembly stands on four curved, splayed legs united by a shaped stretcher. It measures 156 cm high, 43 cm wide, and 53 cm deep. Positioned in an empty corner or a bedroom dressing area, this piece suits an English Country House interior scheme. It provides a full-length reflection while adding traditional character and woodwork detail to a room, functioning alongside period or contemporary furnishings.

A cheval mirror is a full-length floor mirror supported by a dual-upright frame, allowing the glass to tilt on central pivots. The term derives from the French word for horse due to the four-legged supporting base, with the design becoming prominent during the late eighteenth century.

Pieces from the 1920s frequently utilised burr walnut veneers applied over solid timber cores to display figured grain patterns. Construction methods included hand-carved crestings, brass pivot fittings, turned finials, and splayed legs joined with traditional mortise and tenon woodwork.

Authentic examples exhibit signs of age such as natural oxidation on brass hardware, irregular burr grain figure, and micro-crazing in the original lacquer. Examining the back panel typically reveals secondary woods like pine or oak, alongside hand-finished frame joints.

A standing walnut mirror functions as a focal point in dressing rooms, primary bedrooms, or quiet room alcoves. The rich timber tones create warmth alongside contemporary soft furnishings, textured area rugs, and minimalist painted surfaces.

Dust the timber frame regularly using a dry microfibre cloth and apply a beeswax polish annually following the grain direction. Clean the mirror glass with a damp lint-free cloth, avoiding direct liquid contact with the frame to prevent veneer moisture damage.
