Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This mid-19th century Victorian armchair by Howard & Sons dates from around 1850. The piece is upholstered in newly applied blue and off-white monogram linen featuring a patterned fabric design. The front incorporates turned walnut legs resting on Cope & Collinson brass castors, while the rear legs have a simulated walnut paint finish. The high backrest showcases deep button tufting and the frame includes scroll arms. The left back leg bears an impressed serial number. Measuring 81 cm high, 71 cm wide, and 83 cm deep with a 37 cm seat height, this traditional English country house armchair suits a living room or study as a reading or fireside chair.

Howard and Sons armchairs from the mid-19th century are defined by their deep-seated profiles, ergonomic proportions, coil-sprung seats, and high-quality cabinetmaking.

These armchairs were constructed with solid hardwood frames, steel coil springs, natural horsehair and hair filling, turned timber legs, brass castors, and woven cotton or linen upholstery.

Authentic examples frequently feature maker stamps on the inside of the rear wooden legs, impressed lettering on the brass castors, or original printed monogram ticking fabric.

A mid-19th century armchair pairs effectively with contemporary minimalist sofas, timber side tables, and natural lighting to create a balanced, layered living space.

Regularly vacuum the upholstery fabric using a soft brush attachment, position the piece away from direct sunlight to prevent textile fading, and nourish the wooden legs with clear beeswax.
