Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Each chair stands on sturdy turned front legs fitted with metal castors and features a high, straight backrest upholstered in very dark burgundy leather, secured with large brass stud trim along the edges. The framework incorporates carved finials atop the upright posts, an ornate carved crest rail displaying a stylised relief monogram cipher, and shaped aprons above the seat base. The arm chair measures 120 cm high by 66 cm wide by 66 cm deep, providing substantial seating for a formal dining room setup. These heavy, sound chairs suit everyday dining around a large antique or refectory table in a traditional domestic interior.

FAQs

Gothic Revival dining chairs feature design elements inspired by medieval architecture, including pointed arches, carved finials, tracery, high backrests, and robust timber construction, predominantly in oak or walnut.

Chairs from this period were crafted using solid hardwoods such as oak, mahogany, or walnut, joined with traditional mortise and tenon joinery, and frequently upholstered in leather or heavy patterned fabrics secured with brass upholstery tacks.

Authentic pieces display hand-carved decorative motifs, natural timber oxidation, period-appropriate joinery techniques, original brass castors or foot fittings, and minor inconsistencies consistent with manual woodworking tools.

High-back Gothic chairs can be positioned around a minimalist modern wood dining table or used individually as accent seating in hallways and libraries, balancing dark timber tones against neutral walls and contemporary lighting.

Oak timber should be cleaned with a soft dry cloth and treated periodically with beeswax polish, while leather upholstery requires conditioning with a specialized leather balm to prevent drying and cracking.
