We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian fitted jewellery boxes were popular during the nineteenth century, designed to securely house personal accessories, watches, and gemstones in structured compartments. They typically feature fine exotic wood veneers, velvet or leather linings, and brass escutcheons with functional locking mechanisms.

Craftsmen commonly utilised dense hardwoods such as rosewood, coromandel, walnut, or mahogany, often embellished with brass stringing and mother-of-pearl inlays. Interior compartments were lined with silk velvet, leather, or satin to protect delicate items from abrasion.

Authentic Victorian pieces feature period-appropriate construction techniques such as hand-cut dovetail joints, ruched velvet lid linings, and brass escutcheon plates with functional lever locks. The presence of age-appropriate patina on metal fittings and natural timber grain wear also indicates authenticity.

An antique box serves as a functional decorative object atop a bedroom bedside table, dressing table, or living room sideboard. Placing it alongside modern ceramics or minimal glass accessories creates a textured, layered aesthetic that bridges historical and contemporary decor.

Keep the timber moisturised by applying a high-quality beeswax polish along the grain, avoiding contact with interior velvet linings. Store the box away from direct sunlight, radiators, and high humidity to prevent wood warping, veneer lifting, or velvet discolouration.
