A beautifully preserved example of 19th century English Tunbridge ware, this elegant marquetry jewellery box showcases the exceptional craftsmanship for which Tunbridge Wells became renowned during the Victorian period.
 
The lid is exquisitely inlaid with a rectangular central panel featuring a striking stylised floral motif, framed by an intricate interwoven geometric border. The sides are equally impressive, decorated with a broad marquetry border incorporating a delicate garland of roses and mixed flowers, demonstrating the remarkable precision of traditional Tunbridge ware mosaic work.
 
Opening the box reveals its original blue paper lined interior, while the underside retains the original hand marbled paper finish. A particularly desirable feature is the rare original maker''s paper label for Edmund Nye, manufacturer of Mount Ephraim and Parade, Tunbridge Wells, adding authenticity and collectability to this fine piece.
