We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian coromandel dressing box is a specialized wooden container crafted during the nineteenth century to hold cosmetics, grooming tools, and jewellery. Coromandel, a dense exotic hardwood with contrasting dark and light grain patterns, was frequently used for high-end cabinetry and small woodenware.

These boxes were constructed from exotic hardwoods such as coromandel, rosewood, walnut, or mahogany. Exterior surfaces were often reinforced with brass bindings, brass stringing, and flush-mounted handles, while interiors featured velvet, silk, or leather linings alongside glass or silver containers.

Authentic period boxes display characteristic dark striped grain patterns unique to coromandel wood, often paired with flush brass fittings, period locks, and hand-cut dovetail joinery inside the construction.

An antique dressing box functions as a functional tabletop accent when placed on a sideboard, dressing table, or bedside nightstand. It provides discreet storage for small everyday items while adding historical wood textures to modern rooms.

Dust the wood surface with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and apply a quality beeswax polish periodically to retain the timbers moisture and sheen. Keep the box away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent shrinkage, cracking, or veneer lift.
