This pair of side chairs dates from the Victorian Rococo Revival period around 1860, originating in the United Kingdom. The construction comprises solid walnut finished in a polished medium brown tone, showing rich wood grain across the frames. Each chair exhibits a distinctive balloon back with an open scrollwork splat and a carved top rail adorned with intricate floral motif woodwork. The seating consists of textured fabric upholstery in a neutral tan shade, resting above gently curving cabriole legs with carved scrolling feet. Every chair measures 95 cm in height, 49 cm in width, 54 cm in depth, and features a seat height of 45 cm. Suitable for domestic settings such as a formal dining room, a traditional sitting room, or a bedroom, these seating pieces offer functional elegance. The compact footprint allows them to fit neatly around a dining table or serve as decorative accent seating against a wall. Their classic silhouette and natural timber warmth complement both traditional period interiors and eclectic transitional spaces, bringing nineteenth-century craftsmanship into everyday living environments.

FAQs

Victorian Rococo Revival chairs, popular during the mid-19th century, feature elaborate scrollwork, open carved balloon backs, and curved cabriole legs inspired by 18th-century French Rococo design.

Chairs from this era were crafted from solid hardwoods such as walnut, mahogany, or rosewood, paired with traditional padded or webbed upholstered seating bases.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-carved decorative motifs with minor natural variations, traditional mortise and tenon joinery, and structural wear consistent with age.

These side chairs can be placed as standalone accent seats in a hallway or bedroom, or mixed with contemporary dining furniture to create a curated, eclectic aesthetic.

Dust the timber surfaces regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply clear beeswax polish periodically, ensuring the furniture remains away from direct heat sources and high humidity.
