An elegant and highly authentic early 19th-century Regency period ebonised side chair, dating to circa 1815. This fine accent chair is an excellent example of design from the late Georgian era, featuring the iconic Trafalgar-style bar-back frame.
The back frame features a finely turned spindle top rail over a central horizontal splat, which is beautifully embellished with a detailed, original applied cast-brass foliate mount. The upright stiles are further enhanced by four inset brass decorative roundels. The chair boasts gracefully out-curved front sabre legs and swept rear legs, a classic hallmark of the Regency period that provides a striking silhouette.
Importantly, the chair retains its highly desirable, original hand-woven natural cane seat which has aged to a rich, honey-toned patina that beautifully contrasts against the ebonised seat frame. The cane seat is original and delicate, showing minor historic sagging and a few broken strands.
The frame is structurally sound,
... stable, and retains its authentic ebonised finish with minor, age-appropriate, wear that highlights its 200-year history.
Due to the delicate nature of the rare, surviving original cane work, this piece is recommended for decorative display use only or as an accent chair for a bedroom, hallway, or drawing room.
