Description

An unusual pair of late Victorian walnut side chairs, made to commemorate Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee in 1897.

Each chair features an intricately carved and pierced back, with the dates 1837 and 1897 flanking a decorative crown above an interlaced VR monogram, representing Victoria Regina.

The shaped back rails are embellished with geometric carving, while the generously upholstered seats are covered in a pale gold patterned fabric with matching braid.

Raised on turned and tapered front legs, with gently swept rear supports.

An attractive and historically interesting pair of commemorative chairs, celebrating Queen Victoria's sixty years on the throne.
