An unusual turner’s side chair, in beautifully patinated ash. A heavy and solid chair with bold turnings.
Most turner’s chairs, showcasing the craft of ‘the turner’ are of triangular form with arms
and some kind of top comb, whereas this chair has a simple side chair form, possibly lending the design influence for later made and simpler ‘Dales’ chairs which were made with both wooden and rush seats. English c1760.
Part of the ash seat has been later replaced in oak, but a long time ago.
