This Georgian antique swing dressing table or toilet mirror dates from circa 1810 and is made from warm brown mahogany with crossbanded inlay and clear glass. The piece consists of a rectangular mirror plate set within a frame, suspended between reeded uprights topped with small brass finials and adjusted by side brass turning handles. The uprights connect to a base containing a single free-sliding box drawer fitted with two small brass loop handles, which stands on small bracket feet. The wood shows visible figuring and age-related foxing on the mirror glass. Measuring 54 cm high, 35 cm wide, and 20 cm deep, the unit fits well on a bedroom dressing table or a living room sideboard top.

A Georgian toilet mirror, also known as a dressing glass, is a tabletop mirror set on a standalone frame or a base with drawers, designed during the 18th and early 19th centuries for use on a dressing table or chest of drawers.

These mirrors were predominantly crafted from dense hardwoods such as Cuban mahogany, walnut, or satinwood, often featuring pine or oak as secondary timbers for drawer linings, alongside brass hardware and mercurial silvered glass.

Authentic Georgian examples typically display hand-cut dovetail joints on base drawers, reeded or turned upright supports, original brass brassware, and characteristic hand-planed secondary timbers behind the frame and underneath the base.

Position the mirror atop a bedroom chest of drawers, a hallway console table, or a vanity unit to introduce historical depth and wood grain contrast against contemporary decorative schemes.

Maintain mahogany timber using beeswax paste applied thinly along the wood grain, avoiding commercial aerosol sprays, while wiping the glass gently with a dry microfibre cloth to safeguard original mercury backing.
