ANTIQUE #SA1174553

A George III Elm And Fruitwood Spindle Back Carver Chair

£750    $1,011    €856
An early 19th-century Georgian spindle-back armchair. Stylistically this chair shares a lot of design markers with many from the East Anglia/Suffolk region, but at the same time there are many similar ''Dales chairs'' from North West England as well, although typically not as finely decorated.

This superb chair has been beautifully decorated with a single-row spindle back, elaborately turned cresting rail, and exquisitely turned spindles arranged in a fan pattern, flanked by round back uprights. Additionally, the chair features curved-shaped arms resting on ring-turned underarm supports and gently tapering front legs. Chamfered back legs connect by a single stretcher, double side stretchers and a single ring-turned front stretcher finish off this wonderful piece of provincial furniture making.

In very good overall condition. Some very light losses to the rush seat, but beyond that, a stunning example of 19th-century English chair-making craftsmanship.
