Nineteenth century library armchairs typically feature robust wooden frames with padded armrests, high backs designed for support, and practical elements like castors for mobility in study spaces.

These chairs were traditionally constructed using solid hardwoods such as beech or pine as a foundational frame, often finished with faux graining techniques to imitate luxurious timbers like rosewood, and upholstered with supportive horsehair stuffing beneath hessian.

Authenticity is identified through traditional joinery methods, hand-turned wooden components, the presence of period brass castors, and aged natural webbing or hessian upholstery foundations.

These foundational pieces can be re-upholstered in modern textured fabrics to create a striking contrast against minimalist walls, serving as a focal reading chair in a study or living space.

Maintain the exposed wooden frames by dusting regularly with a soft cloth and applying neutral beeswax periodically to nourish the timber, whilst avoiding direct sunlight to prevent fading.
