The quality is superb, this is a nice early model with a gorgeous patina. The leather has just the right amount of wear and has a lovely colour tone, we have had this revived by our leather restorer.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Gainsborough armchair is a wide, upholstered armchair with short open arms, designed in mid-18th-century England and commonly used at a writing desk or in a library.

Authentic period pieces are traditionally constructed from solid hardwoods such as mahogany or walnut, upholstered in hand-dyed leather, and finished with brass tack detailing.

Identification involves examining the timber grain, hand-cut joinery, traditional webbing and horsehair stuffing, and the natural patination on the leather and wood surfaces.

This chair functions well as a sophisticated desk chair in a home office or as an occasional accent piece paired with contemporary minimalist furniture to create textural contrast.

Preservation requires keeping the piece out of direct sunlight, maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, and periodically treating the leather with specialized natural waxes or balms to prevent cracking.
