Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A pier mirror, or pier glass, is a tall, narrow mirror designed in the 18th century to be mounted on the wall pier between two windows. These pieces often featured elaborate carved crestings or upper painted panels to reflect natural light and extend room proportions.

Dutch pier mirrors from this era were typically constructed using solid walnut or veneered frames, hand-carved wood pediments, silvered or mercury glass plates, and oil paint on wood or canvas upper panels.

Authentic period pieces display age-appropriate signs such as hand-cut backboards, hand-carved joinery, natural craquelure on the painted oil panel, and slight silvering degradation or mild foxing within the original mirror glass.

Position the mirror above a console table, dining sideboard, or within a narrow hallway alcove. Its vertical profile draws the eye upwards, adding depth and structural architectural framing to contemporary living spaces.

Dust the timber frame gently with a dry, soft microfiber cloth. Avoid applying commercial glass cleaners directly to the mirror plate near the wooden edges, and keep the piece away from direct heat sources and excessive moisture.
