Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This mid-nineteenth century Victorian open armchair dates from around 1840 and is constructed in dark brown rosewood. The chair has a tall, curved backrest, padded armrests, and a low seat, all with exposed coarse hessian and calico upholstery showing the internal stuffing. The front legs feature turned reeded decoration above brass castors, while the rear legs are splayed and fitted with castors. Scrolled wooden arm supports connect the front legs to the back frame. The dark brown timber shows visible grain and minor wear, and the unfinished upholstery reveals the raw materials of its construction. Measuring 92 cm high, 61 cm wide, and 67 cm deep with a 39 cm seat height, this piece requires complete re-upholstery to the buyer's specification before domestic use. Once covered in a fabric of choice, it suits a gentleman's library, a study, a drawing room, or a bedroom as an occasional or reading chair, providing comfortable upholstered seating while adding period character to an interior scheme.

Produced around the 1840s, these chairs feature open spaces between the armrests and seat frame, crafted from dense rosewood with distinctive grain patterns and turned or scrolled detailing.

Frameworks were constructed from solid or veneered rosewood using traditional mortise and tenon joinery, natural hessian webbing, coil springs, and horsehair padding.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-carved embellishments, rich dark timber with characteristic graining, period brass castors, and historical joinery methods.

Position the chair beside a modern side table or within a study area to create an inviting reading corner that blends historic character with modern elements.

Maintain timber surfaces by dusting with a soft cloth and applying beeswax occasionally, while keeping the frame away from direct heat sources and sunlight.
