We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Edwardian mirrors often draw inspiration from earlier periods such as the Georgian and Sheraton revivals, featuring lighter proportions, refined craftsmanship, and elegant gilded ornamentation combined with rich timbers like walnut and mahogany.

Authentic pieces typically feature solid hardwood frames, such as walnut or mahogany, accented with gesso and gold leaf gilding, housing original bevelled mirror glass secured with timber backing boards.

Authentication involves examining the mirror plate for age-related oxidation and imperfections, inspecting the backboards for period fixings, and verifying that the construction methods and joinery align with early 20th-century cabinetmaking standards.

An antique gilt mirror works effectively as a focal point when hung above a mantelpiece or sideboard, contrasting traditional craftsmanship with contemporary minimalist walls to add depth and warmth to a room.

Gilded frames should be dusted gently with a soft, dry brush, avoiding all liquid cleaners or solvents that can damage the delicate gold leaf. The glass plate can be cleaned sparingly using a microfibre cloth and a neutral glass cleaner applied to the cloth rather than directly to the mirror.
