Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This French Rococo style wall mirror dates from the late 19th century and measures 94 cm high by 70 cm wide with a 4 cm depth. The solid oak frame is hand carved and finished with a hand painted antique sage green colour scheme featuring a rubbed back appearance, detailed acanthus leaves, prominent C-scrolls, rocaille mouldings, and a top shell cresting. The original shaped and cut bevelled glass plate is set within the heavily moulded border. Today, this piece serves well in a home as a functional decorative wall hanging in a hallway, set inside a narrow alcove, or positioned centrally above a mantelpiece in a living room. The substantial proportions and ornamental wooden carvings suit traditional interiors inspired by a French chateau aesthetic.

FAQs

Originating in 18th-century France, Rococo style mirrors feature fluid asymmetry, naturalistic foliage, C-scrolls, and shell-like rocaille motifs designed to add architectural interest and light to interior spaces.

Traditional Rococo frames were typically hand-carved from softwoods such as lime or pine, then coated with gesso and finished with gilding, lacquer, or paint.

Authentic period pieces display hand-carved joinery marks, subtle wood movement, multi-layered gesso underneath painted surfaces, and natural oxidisation on the original glass pane.

Positioning an ornate Rococo mirror above a streamlined console table or contemporary fireplace creates a focal point through the contrast of decorative carving and clean modern lines.

Dust the detailed carving with a soft, dry natural-bristle brush, avoiding water or chemical polish on painted finishes, and wipe the glass gently with a dampened microfibre cloth.
