Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian gilt triptych mirror features three distinct mirror plates set within a gilded frame, often incorporating a central arched section and decorative base shelf. Popularised during the late nineteenth century, these mirrors combined reflective surfaces with ornamental casting and carving inspired by Rococo and Neo-Classical styles.

These mirrors were typically constructed using a carved timber base coated with gesso, over which gold leaf or metallic gilding was applied. The mirror plates were made from silvered glass, while intricate structural accents utilized moulded composition material.

Authentic pieces display hand-cut timber backboards, natural oxidisation on the silvered glass plate, and visible wear to the gilding where the dark bole or gesso underneath shows through. Joinery on the rear frame usually features historic slotted screws and wooden construction rather than modern fixings.

Positioning a gilded mirror above a contemporary sideboard or console table creates a visual anchor through textural contrast. The reflective surface enhances ambient light within hallways or dining rooms, while the warm metallic frame complements neutral paint schemes.

The gilded frame should be dusted gently using a dry, soft brush to prevent chipping the delicate gesso detailing. Liquid glass cleaner should never be sprayed directly onto the frame, as moisture seeping behind the border causes backing degradation.
