Eighteenth-century Venetian girandoles are characterised by their ornate carved wooden frames, often covered in gesso and gilded, featuring asymmetrical rococo scrolls, floral motifs, and integrated mirrored glass panels.

These pieces typically feature hand-carved softwoods coated in multiple layers of gesso and gold leaf. The glass plates are traditionally silvered using mercury or tin-amalgam techniques on hand-blown glass sheets.

Authentic items display signs of age such as foxing in the glass, hand-cut bevelling, natural oxidisation of the gilt finish, and tool marks on the reverse of the carved wooden structure.

They can be mounted symmetrically above a console table or sideboard to add verticality, reflection, and historical contrast to minimalist modern spaces.

Keep them out of direct sunlight and away from high humidity to prevent degradation of the gilt surface and silvering. Clean only with a dry, soft cloth, avoiding all liquid chemicals.
