Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian arched overmantel mirror is characterised by a flat base designed to rest directly on a fireplace mantelpiece, paired with a curved or arched upper profile. Frames from this era typically feature composition detail over timber with gold leaf finishes.

These mirrors were constructed using pine or lime wood cores covered with plaster or composition moulding to create floral, leaf, or beaded detail, which was then finished with oil or water gilding applied over red or yellow clay bole.

Authentic 19th-century examples display dark silvering wear or foxing on the glass, join lines in the timber backing boards, natural wear exposing the red bole beneath the gold leaf, and slight hand-carved irregularities in the plaster mouldings.

An antique gilt mirror can be placed above a restored fireplace surround or positioned atop a modern console table to contrast classical decorative mouldings against clean architectural lines.

Gilt frames should be cleaned using only a dry, soft-bristled brush to remove dust without disturbing delicate gold leaf, while mirror glass should be wiped gently using a barely damp cloth without spraying liquids directly onto the frame.
