Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A pair of comfortable French bergere armchairs dating from 1900, designed in the Louis XVI style. The frames are constructed from painted wood in an off-white colour with a slightly worn original finish, and the upholstery features a grey and off-white geometric patterned fabric. Details visible include fluted turned front legs with carved rosettes, padded armrests, and enclosed upholstered sides. Each chair measures 87 cm high, 63 cm wide, and 68 cm deep. These armchairs provide comfortable seating suitable for a living room, drawing room, bedroom or study. The sturdy frames and supportive sprung seats and webbing make them practical for daily use while maintaining a classic French chateau appearance.

A bergere is an upholstered French armchair featuring solid filled-in sides between the armrests and the seat frame. First introduced in early eighteenth-century France, these chairs are designed with exposed carved wooden framing and deep loose seat cushions.

Traditional Louis XVI bergere armchairs are constructed from solid hardwoods such as beech, walnut, or oak, often painted, gilded, or polished. The upholstery historically comprised natural fibers including linen, silk damask, or woven jacquard fabrics over traditional horsehair or coil padding.

Authentic period pieces exhibit traditional joinery techniques such as pegged mortise and tenon joints, hand-carved details, and age-appropriate wear on the base and joinery. Period Louis XVI examples feature straight, tapered, fluted legs, symmetrical neoclassic motifs, and individual hand-cut wood components.

A pair of bergere armchairs can be placed opposite a simple sofa to create a balanced conversational arrangement. They also function well flanking a fireplace, positioned in a bay window, or placed at the foot of a bed in a master bedroom suite.

Painted wooden frames should be dusted regularly with a soft dry cloth and kept away from direct heat sources to prevent cracking. Upholstered sections require gentle vacuuming with a soft brush attachment and spot cleaning using fabric-appropriate solutions.
