The William IV style spans the 1830s, acting as a transitional bridge between Regency elegance and Victorian ornamentation, characterised by robust proportions, classical revival motifs, and dark exotic timbers.

Cabinet makers predominantly utilised dense tropical hardwoods such as rosewood and mahogany, often accented with brass castors and traditional horsehair or webbed upholstery padding.

Authentic pieces typically feature hand-carved scrolling details, turned or fluted front legs with brass castors, heavy timber construction, and traditional joinery methods without modern metal fasteners.

This piece works effectively as a statement desk chair or an accent seat in a study, pairing well with minimalist modern textures to highlight its historical craftsmanship.

Maintain antique rosewood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, feeding the timber periodically with specialist beeswax, and avoiding silicone-based polishes.
