Description

Good 18th century Dutch walnut upholstered salon or drawing room arm chair. The chair has just come back from being re-upholstered in what I think is a very tasteful material. THe chair has turned legs with carved decoration and there is various carved decoration elsewhere. The chair has nice shape arms also with carved decoration. The chair is in good condition and ready for a new home. There are a couple of minor old repaired cracks to the oval back near the top but these are perfectly solid.

The chair is a lovely mellow colour with good patination from years of waxing.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Eighteenth-century Dutch furniture often reflects refined craftsmanship, incorporating elegant proportions, carved wooden elements, and influences from Baroque and Neoclassical design movements.

These seating pieces were typically crafted from dense hardwoods like walnut, oak, or mahogany, often featuring traditional joinery techniques and upholstered with woven textiles or leather.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit hand-cut joinery, signs of age-related patination on the wood, traditional stuffing materials within the upholstery, and construction methods consistent with period tool marks.

Pairing a historic armchair with minimalist modern furnishings creates a striking contrast, allowing the traditional craftsmanship and rich timber tones to serve as a focal point in the room.

Keep wooden furniture away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber cracking, and maintain stable indoor humidity levels while regularly dusting with a soft, dry cloth.
