This Victorian table box from 1880 takes a rectangular form with a domed lid, constructed from burr walnut with a warm brown timber colour and natural figure grain. A central brass keyhole escutcheon sits on the front. The interior is empty and newly lined, accompanied by a fully functioning lock and key. The box measures 12.5 cm high, 22 cm wide, and 29.5 cm deep. Such a piece suits a gentleman's library or study setting. It provides practical storage for small keepsakes, trinkets, or stationery items. Placed on a sideboard top, desk, or display table, the box integrates well into traditional or transitional interior schemes. The compact dimensions allow it to sit comfortably on shelving units or mantelpieces while offering functional organization for everyday items in the home.

Popularised in the late nineteenth century, a domed-top table box is a small decorative wooden chest featuring a curved lid designed for storing desktop items, stationery, or personal items.

Cabinetmakers constructed these boxes using solid wood carcases overlaid with decorative veneers such as burr walnut, finished with brass escutcheons and keyhole fittings.

Authentic period examples exhibit natural grain variations in the veneer, period-correct brass hardware with subtle oxidisation, and hand-fitted construction details around the hinges and lock.

Place the piece on a modern console table, sideboard, or desk alongside neutral ceramics and books to create visual contrast through historical texture.

Dust the exterior using a soft, dry microfibre cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year, keeping the item away from radiator heat and direct sunlight.
