Eagle top mirrors gained prominence during the 18th and 19th centuries, frequently associated with Federal and Georgian styles, where the American or British eagle symbolised patriotism, freedom, and strength.

Authentic period pieces are typically constructed from dense tropical hardwoods like mahogany, accented with hand-carved details and finished with water or oil gilding on the cresting elements.

Authentication involves examining the timber grain, checking for hand-cut joinery, observing silver oxidisation patterns on the original mirror plate, and inspecting the gesso application beneath the gilding.

Positioning the mirror above a mantelpiece or a sleek console table allows the traditional craftsmanship to stand out, creating a striking focal point that balances modern minimalist furniture.

Dust the carved woodwork gently with a soft, dry cloth, avoiding chemical polishes that can damage the aged patina, and clean the glass using a microfiber cloth lightly dampened with distilled water.
