Windsor chairs originated in the Thames Valley of England during the early 18th century, evolving from vernacular woodworking traditions that combined a solid wooden seat with steam-bent components and spindle backs.

Traditional Windsor chairs typically utilised a multi-wood construction, combining tough timbers like yew, ash, elm, or beech for the bentwood hoops, spindles, carved splats, and sculpted seats.

Authentication involves examining tool marks, timber shrinkage, wedged through-tennong joints under the seat, and hand-turned components that indicate pre-industrial manufacturing techniques.

These versatile armchairs can be incorporated into modern dining spaces or used as standalone accent pieces to introduce organic warmth, historical contrast, and traditional craftsmanship to minimalist settings.

Preservation requires maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight and heat sources, and occasionally applying microcrystalline wax to nourish and protect the aged timber surface.
