An 18th-century Georgian Hepplewhite carver chair in mahogany displays a warm brown finish. The frame incorporates an arched splat back decorated with carved ribbon motifs, dramatic swept armrests, and square tapered legs joined by an H-stretcher base. A newly re-covered cream patterned fabric with red and green spots upholstered onto the exceptionally wide seat with a serpentine front rail completes the construction. Measuring 95 cm in height, 63 cm in width, and 51 cm in depth with a seat height of 43 cm, this single carver provides comfortable seating. Suitable for placement around a dining table, beside a desk, or as an occasional accent piece in a hallway or living room, the chair introduces classic English country house character to any interior space. The robust timber frame and stable stretcher construction offer reliable everyday functionality, while the newly upholstered drop-in seat pad provides a clean, fresh surface for regular use.

Hepplewhite style furniture originated in late 18th-century Britain, named after designer George Hepplewhite. It is characterised by slender proportions, straight tapered legs, and distinctive back shapes such as shield, heart, or arched profiles with intricate carved splats.

Georgian carver chairs were predominantly crafted from solid dense mahogany, prized for its durability and rich grain. Internal seat frames often utilised pine or beech, with traditional horsehair upholstery and hand-cut mortise and tenon joinery.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-saw marks on secondary woods, hand-carved decoration with subtle asymmetries, and original corner block support under the seat frame. The mahogany typically shows natural patination and slight shrinkage consistent with age.

A Hepplewhite carver chair functions effectively as a standalone accent piece beside a writing desk, in an entryway, or positioned at the head of a contemporary dining table to create visual contrast.

Keep mahogany furniture away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber warping and finish fading. Clean surfaces with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year.
