Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This pair of Art Deco cloud armchairs dates from the 1940 period and follows a distinctive Art Deco style. The construction employs walnut veneers combined with hardwood and satinwood, presenting a polished finish across the curved wooden side panels. The upholstery consists of patterned velvet fabric in a striking black and gold colour combination featuring a geometric design. Each armchair displays characteristic cloud-back silhouettes, curved veneer arms that sweep down to the base, and small rectangular wooden feet. These armchairs function as statement seating pieces suitable for a living room, study, or drawing room interior today. The generous proportions provide comfortable lounging, while the eye-catching upholstery and warm timber tones complement both vintage and contemporary interior schemes. The chairs are built for daily use in a domestic setting, offering a practical combination of supportive seating and period aesthetic appeal.

FAQs

Originating in the 1930s, Art Deco cloud armchairs are characterised by their lobed backrests resembling cloud formations and sweeping, streamlined arm profiles often finished in polished timber veneers.

These chairs feature solid timber frames combined with decorative side panels in wood veneers such as satinwood or walnut, paired with heavy upholstery fabrics like velvet, woven chenille, or leather.

Authentic period armchairs exhibit traditional hand-cut joinery, coil-sprung seating construction, age-appropriate patination on timber surfaces, and substantial weight consistent with solid hardwood framing.

Positioned as accent seating in living spaces or reception rooms, these chairs provide geometric interest alongside minimalist architecture, neutral walls, and contemporary floor coverings.

Upholstery should be lightly cleaned using a soft brush vacuum attachment, while timber veneers should be kept away from direct heat sources and maintained with natural beeswax polish.
