A pair of Regency period knife boxes originates from around 1820 in the Regency style. Each piece uses warm brown plum pudding mahogany throughout, finished with an ebony moulding and a green velvet interior lining, creating a rich grain figure. The construction includes a simple serpentine curved front, a sloping lid, and brass side handles attached to the flanks, alongside key escutcheons centred on the lower section. The surfaces show original colour and patina across the wood, with high-quality metal handles fixed to the sides and untouched internal velvet compartments. Each box measures 34.5 cm high, 23.5 cm wide, and 23 cm deep, providing compact storage capacity for a home setting. In contemporary interiors, these knife boxes sit upon a dining room sideboard or a side table in a hallway or living room, offering display potential and enclosed storage for cutlery or small items. The matching pair functions as a decorative tabletop accessory on flat wooden surfaces, bringing period character to traditional or eclectic spaces without requiring floor space. Their matched timber grain and balanced proportions make them suitable for placement in reception rooms or studies as historical accents.

A Regency knife box is a specialized wooden storage vessel produced during the early nineteenth century designed to house cutlery safely on a dining room sideboard.

These containers were typically constructed from solid timbers like oak or pine and veneered with high-grade hardwoods such as mahogany, rosewood, or satinwood, often featuring brass or silver fittings.

Authentic Regency knife boxes feature characteristic sloping lids, serpentine or curved fronts, hand-cut dovetail joinery, period-correct brass hardware, and original slotted wooden dividers internally.

They are traditionally placed symmetrically in pairs on top of a sideboard or credenza, serving as decorative accents in dining rooms, entryways, or formal living spaces.

Keep the wood away from direct sunlight and heat sources, clean surfaces gently with a soft cloth, and apply a natural beeswax polish occasionally to protect the original finish.
