This set of six Windsor chairs dates from 1900 in an English Country style, comprising two carver chairs with arms and four standard chairs. Constructed from elm and ash with a warm brown timber colour and polished finish, each chair features a hoop back frame, a pierced wheelback central splat, back supports, a saddle seat, a base support bar, and turned legs. Visible details include visible wood grain variations across the brown timber seats and backs, rounded armrests on the two carvers, and slight tone variations between the six individual chairs. The carver chairs measure 102 cm high, 61 cm wide, and 38 cm deep, while the standard chairs measure 89 cm high, 36 cm wide, and 46 cm deep. Suitable for everyday seating, the group belongs in a kitchen or a dining area to provide rustic farmhouse dining furniture around a dining table. The set offers traditional seating capacity for six people, accommodating family meals or gatherings.

A Windsor chair is a style of wooden seating where the back legs and spindle back uprights are inserted into drilled mortise holes in a solid timber seat, rather than continuing from the back frame. Originating in England during the eighteenth century, these chairs feature turned legs, spindle backs, and shaped saddle seats.

Traditional English Windsor chairs are crafted using a combination of regional hardwoods. Solid elm is commonly selected for the saddle seat due to its cross-grained strength, while ash, beech, or yew are used for steam-bent bows, turned legs, and back spindles.

Authentic construction features wedged tenon joints visible on top of the seat surface, hand-shaped saddle seating, turned leg stretchers, and the deliberate use of different wood species across structural components to maximize strength.

Windsor chairs pair effectively with contemporary timber dining tables or modern minimalist stone surfaces. Their open spindle back silhouette introduces visual texture and organic warmth to both modern Scandinavian and traditional country interior designs.

Maintain wooden seating by placing it away from direct heat sources and damp environments to prevent joint movement or timber cracking. Apply a natural beeswax polish twice yearly along the wood grain using a soft lint-free cloth.
