Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This is an 1880 Art Nouveau display cabinet made from warm mahogany brown wood with brass hardware, stained glass, and marquetry inlay. The piece stands 216 cm high, 84 cm wide, and 38 cm deep. Surmounted by open scroll work above an inlaid frieze, the upper cabinet has a green, pink, and blue stained-glass door opening to an oak-lined shelved interior, flanked at both sides by shelves and drawers with ribbed supports and turnings. The frieze drawer contains gilded brass handles and escutcheons on an oak-lined drawer, sitting above a further cupboard with bullseye-stained glass doors, over shaped brackets to a simple under-shelf. The entire cabinet rests on splayed mahogany feet. In a contemporary home, this display cabinet suits a living room, dining room, or hallway as a storage piece and display unit for glassware, books, or decorative objects. The compact depth allows it to fit neatly against walls in narrow hallways or tighter living spaces while providing upper and lower display and storage options.

FAQs

Art Nouveau cabinet design emerged in the late nineteenth century, characterised by organic forms, sinuous lines, stylized floral motifs, and asymmetrical naturalistic details.

Craftsmen typically utilised fine hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, and oak, alongside decorative elements including leaded stained glass, marquetry inlays, and cast brass hardware.

Authentic pieces feature handcrafted joinery such as hand-cut dovetail joints, period-correct brass fitments, original leaded or stained glass panels, and age-appropriate patination on the timber.

An Art Nouveau cabinet serves as a distinctive architectural focal point in contemporary spaces, pairing effectively with understated soft furnishings, neutral wall tones, and modern sculptural accessories.

Maintain the timber finish by dusting regularly with a soft cloth and applying beeswax occasionally, while cleaning stained glass panels carefully with a dry, non-abrasive microfiber cloth to protect the lead cames.
