Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This late Victorian childs rocking chair originates from Sweden and reflects a rustic Scandinavian country style. Constructed from pine and birch with a dark brown wood stain finish, the piece displays several traditional architectural details visible in the photograph, including a spindle backrest with four uprights, curved wooden armrests, turned legs with stretcher supports, and long curved rockers showing natural signs of wear. The chair measures 64 cm in height, 41 cm in width, and 67 cm in depth at the base. This practical small-scale seating item works well as a decorative accent piece or a functional miniature chair within a traditional living space or bedroom.

FAQs

Rocking chairs designed specifically for children became popular across Scandinavia during the 18th and 19th centuries, often crafted by hand in rural communities as functional items for the family home.

These chairs were predominantly crafted from local European hardwoods and softwoods such as pine, birch, or oak, often finished with dark timber stains, natural waxes, or milk paints.

Authentic pieces feature traditional joinery, hand-turned spindles, visible hand-planing marks, and natural surface wear along the rockers and armrests consistent with age.

In modern interiors, a childs rocking chair serves as an accent piece in a nursery, bedroom, or living area, adding warm wood tones and historical texture to minimalist or rustic design schemes.

Keep the timber away from direct heat sources and excessive moisture, dust gently with a soft microfibre cloth, and periodically apply a high-quality clear beeswax to preserve the wood finish.
