FAQs

The scabello is a Renaissance-era Italian chair design characterised by a trestle base and a shaped wooden seat and back, which inspired later revival pieces in the Georgian period.

These chairs were predominantly crafted from dense hardwoods such as mahogany, oak, and walnut, chosen for their durability in high-traffic entrance areas.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit period-appropriate joinery, hand-carved details, appropriate patina, and the use of solid secondary timbers on the underside.

They can be used as sculptural accent pieces in an entryway, against a hallway wall, or paired with a minimalist console table to create architectural contrast.

Maintain them by keeping them away from direct sunlight and heat sources, and occasionally feeding the wood with high-quality beeswax while avoiding harsh chemical cleaners.
