Treen refers to small, functional wooden household objects made before the widespread use of plastic, highly prized by collectors for their craftsmanship and patina.

Carvers typically utilised dense hardwood timbers such as boxwood, fruitwood, walnut, and lignum vitae, which allowed for intricate detail and durable everyday handling.

Authenticity is determined by evaluating tool marks, natural wear patterns, shrinkage cracks, and the deep, lustrous surface sheen developed from decades of handling.

Displaying small wooden artefacts on bookshelves, side tables, or within glass cabinets adds tactile warmth, historical contrast, and character to contemporary spaces.

Preservation requires keeping wooden items away from direct sunlight and dramatic humidity changes, occasionally treating them with microcrystalline wax to nourish the grain without sealing it.
