This Edwardian wall mirror dates from the 1920s and fits the English Country House style. The piece uses dark brown oak and glass with a wax finish, presenting a rich grain and deep tones. It takes an oval form featuring a scalloped outer frame with beaded moulding along the perimeter, paired with an inset bevel-edged mirror glass. The construction shows distinct carved shaping to the wooden border with decorative textured beading following the contours. Measuring 52 cm high, 77 cm wide, and 3.5 cm deep, the timber body sits flat against vertical surfaces. Suitable for modern interiors, this wall mirror works well above a sideboard in a dining room, over a console table in a hallway, or mounted in a living room. The woodwork brings traditional texture to neutral spaces while reflecting natural light across the room. Maintenance involves occasional waxing to keep the timber nourish and protect the finish over time.

Edwardian oak wall mirrors typically feature dark stained oak frames, bevelled mirror plates, and subtle decorative accents such as beaded moulding or scalloped edges. Popular from the 1900s to 1910s, these mirrors were frequently designed for entryways, dining rooms, and overmantels.

Frames were predominantly constructed from solid oak or walnut, often finished with a dark stain. The reflective element comprised silvered glass plates, frequently cut with bevelled edges around the perimeter.

Authentic pieces usually display hand-finished joinery, solid wooden backboards held by small nails, and natural wear or minor desilvering to the glass edges. The timber often shows ray flecks characteristic of quarter-sawn oak.

An oval oak mirror can be positioned above a hallway console table, a dining room sideboard, or a fireplace mantelpiece to add architectural contrast to contemporary spaces.

Clean the glass plate using a damp microfibre cloth, taking care not to let moisture seep behind the frame border. The oak timber frame can be maintained by applying a natural beeswax polish occasionally and dusting with a dry cloth.
