Hoshiarpur craft originates from the Punjab region of India, renowned during the late 19th century for intricate brass, copper, and wire inlay work on shesham or mango wood, popularised during the British colonial period.

These items typically feature dense hardwoods such as sheesham (Indian rosewood) or mango wood, meticulously hand-carved with floral or geometric scrollwork and inlaid with hammered brass wire or sheet elements.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-beaten brass wire work embedded flush into the timber, natural ageing and oxidation on the metal, hand-cut joinery, and often old mirror glass with characteristic foxing and silvering loss.

An ornate inlaid mirror serves as a striking focal point when contrasted against minimalist modern walls, or paired with eclectic bohemian textiles and earthy tones to complement its rich metallic and wooden textures.

Maintain the wood with a microfibre cloth and occasional application of natural beeswax, avoiding harsh chemical polishes that can dislodge delicate brass wire inlays or stain the surrounding timber.
