Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Regency design, spanning the late 18th to early 19th century, draws heavily on classical Greco-Roman motifs, featuring symmetrical proportions, formal elegance, and often incorporating architectural elements like ebonised reeded slips and ball-bearing friezes.

Authentic period pieces are typically constructed from carved pine or gesso-coated softwoods, which are then water-gilded or oil-gilded with genuine gold leaf. The plates are frequently convex blown glass held within rabbeted frames.

Authenticity is evaluated by inspecting the construction of the wooden backboards, the presence of hand-applied gesso shrinkage cracks, early mercury or silvering oxidation on the glass plate, and the weight and patina of the original gilding.

Placing a reflective focal point above a mantelpiece or console table bounces natural light around the room, creating a striking contrast when paired with minimalist modern furnishings or rich, saturated wall colours.

Gilded surfaces are exceptionally delicate and water-soluble; dust gently using a very soft, dry, camel-hair brush and avoid all chemical cleaning agents, abrasive cloths, or direct sunlight to prevent cracking and flaking.
