This nineteenth-century Irish armchair follows a traditional Victorian gentleman's library design, constructed from dark mahogany, tan brown leather, and brass. The piece exhibits pale tan brown leather upholstery with deep button tufting and pleating across the backrest, finished along the edges with small brass stud trim. Dark mahogany components include elaborately carved scroll arms with upholstered rests, turned front legs fitted with brass castors, and plain outswept rear legs. Visible signs of age include surface wear, age-related marks, scratches, fading, and cracking throughout the leather. Dimensions are 99 cm high, 66.5 cm wide, and 88 cm deep with a seat height of 35 cm. Suitable for placement in a traditional study, library, or living room, this armchair offers comfortable fireside seating for daily reading or relaxation. Its classic silhouette and warm timber tones complement traditional and transitional interior schemes alike. The sturdy timber frame and castors allow for smooth positioning within a domestic interior, serving both functional seating requirements and decorative needs as a standalone statement piece.

A 19th-century Irish leather armchair is characterised by robust proportions, deep button-tufted leather upholstery, and carved solid wood frames, often mahogany, designed for library or drawing room settings.

Traditional Victorian armchairs feature hand-dyed hide upholstery over coil-sprung stuffing, set upon solid hardwood frames such as mahogany or walnut, finished with brass castors.

Authentic examples exhibit original hand-tacked studding, natural patina on the hide, hand-carved joinery details on the arms or legs, and brass castors.

Position the piece alongside minimal modern side tables or within a neutral room scheme to allow the warm leather patina and timber woodwork to serve as a focal accent.

Keep the leather away from direct heat sources and sunlight, dusting regularly with a dry cloth and applying specialist leather balm annually to prevent drying.
