Edwardian furniture, produced during the reign of King Edward VII from 1901 to 1910, is characterised by lighter, more airy designs that often drew inspiration from earlier 18th-century Sheraton and Chippendale revivals, moving away from the heavy, dark styles of the Victorian era.

Cabinet makers of this era frequently utilised native British hardwoods such as oak, beech, and mahogany, often pairing solid timber frames with traditional joinery methods like mortise and tenon, combined with horsehair or cotton stuffing and upholstery.

Authenticity can be verified by examining the construction techniques, such as hand-cut joinery, patination on the timber, traditional upholstery tacks or piping, and wear patterns consistent with early 20th-century manufacture.

These pieces can be integrated into modern schemes by using them as accent seating in a living room or study, contrasting their traditional wooden frames and patterned textiles against minimalist walls and neutral color palettes.

Preserve the condition of the timber by applying microcrystalline wax periodically to nourish the wood, keeping them away from direct sunlight and heat sources, and using professional cleaning methods for the upholstered sections.
